To register your interest in becoming an ELF sitter simply fill in the Online Application Form below and send copies of any certificates you hold, such as registration as a childminder, NNEBs, first aid certificates, criminal bureau records checks etc. to the following address;

Criminal Records Bureau Checks

There is currently no national register for babysitters so ELF sitters has implemented that from Jan 2008, all new sitters must hold a current enhanced police check. We are happy to accept a disclosure from your current employment provided no more than 2 years has elapsed since the issue date.


If you do not hold a current enhanced police check and would like to register with ELF sitters, we are an umbrella company with the CRB and can submit an application on your behalf. The current fee for this is £46.00 and is to be met by the candidate. If you are requested to attend an interview your options can be discussed then.

Important information you should read before applying


ELF sitters acts as an introduction agency for our sitters and families who are registered with us. All bookings will be offered via ELF sitters and you will be contacted once registered with local opportunities. Our busiest evenings are Friday and Saturday nights and while we do not expect you to be available every weekend at least 1 per month would be advantageous.

Reliability is crucial and you are required to honour any bookings you have accepted unless severe circumstances prevent this. In this situation it is your responsibility to contact ELF sitters immediately.

We anticipate offering each sitter several bookings per month but during quiet periods this may not always be possible. If you are unable to work on Friday and Saturday nights, the volume of bookings available to you will be limited.

The current hourly rates for evening babysitting are:

Monday – Thursday Between 6.30pm-Midnight £5.75 per hour
Friday – Sunday Between 6.30pm-Midnight £6.00 per hour
Outside of these hours for babysitting only £6.50 per hour

There is a minimum booking charge of 3 hours. After this time the hourly rates apply rounded up to the next 15 minutes.

Different rates are applicable for daytime bookings where nanny duties are required, hotel and holiday babysits and bookings on premium nights such as New Years Eve. You will be advised at the time of bookings if rates differ from the norm.

You will be paid directly in cash by the family you are with at the end of the booking. ELF sitters does not take a cut of your earnings or charge a fee to be registered with us. Instead all we ask is that all bookings come through the ELF sitter’s office and that you do not pass out your personal details to families that you sit for. On attending interview you will be required to sign a legally binding contract to this effect. If a family specifically ask for you when placing a booking we will always contact you first.
